11:00 am: Jewish Folktales Retold: Artist as Maggid11:00 am: Jewish Folktales Retold: Artist as Maggid – Haptic Encounters is a collaborative project with writer and professor Georgina Kleege as part of the Jewish Folktales exhibition. She investigates how tactile and kinesthetic explorations of works of art can engage all visitors with the possibilities for appreciating art through a non-visual sense. With a practice that is informed by her interest in blindness and visual art, Kleege invites us to reimagine “qualities such as texture, temperature, weight, resilience, and density that may not be apparent to the eyes alone.” Museum is closed on Wednesdays and open until 8pm on Thursdays. Six audio recordings of these Haptic Encounters can be accessed in the gallery at select listening stations. 736 Mission Street San Francisco, CA 94103 USA 415.655.7800 11:00 am: Way Bay, feat. Lance Rivers, Mary Belknap, and Evelyn Reyes11:00 am: Way Bay, feat. Lance Rivers, Mary Belknap, and Evelyn Reyes – "We are proud to announce that three artworks by Creativity Explored artists are included in the Way Bay exhibition at the Berkeley Art Museum. Way Bay is a sweeping exploration of the creative energies that have emerged from the San Francisco Bay Area over the past two centuries. An innovatively organized exhibition of art and film, plus poetry, performance documentation, and archival materials, Way Bay features nearly two hundred works that reveal the depth and diversity of artists’ engagement with the region’s geographic, social, and cultural landscape.
The exhibition takes a nonlinear form and is organized around diverse poetic themes that cut across time periods, media, styles, and artistic cultures, bringing together voices from a wide range of practices and representing diverse communities and sensibilities."

Once again we are raising the bar for what blind people can expect, what they can accomplish, and that they can rise to the top of their field; given the right training. This session we will have Jerry Kermode come in and instruct woodturning along with George Wurtzel. In spite of the Napa fires, we will still have this amazing, informative, and imaginative session at Enchanted Hills Camp. Please join expert George Wurtzel for another wonderful workshop for beginners, intermediate, and experienced woodworkers. The workshop will be for four days in the beauty of Napa. This class will mainly focus on woodturning. Woodturning is a form of woodworking that is used to create wooden objects on a lathe. This method differs from most other forms of woodworking in that the wood is moving while a stationary tool is used to cut and shape it. Many intricate shapes and designs can be made by turning wood. We will continue to explore hand tool work, power tools, accurate measuring without sight; using click rules, gauge blocks, Vernier calipers, and talking tape measures. We will also continue to discuss different wood types, construction and finishing techniques. Please apply to this workshop using the following link below: https://form.jotform.com/72545928294165 If you have any questions or need support with filling out the application, please contact Taccarra Burrell at tburrell@lighthouse-sf.org or 415-694-7318 8:00 pm: Insignificance8:00 pm: Insignificance "Imagine a meeting of the minds between Albert Einstein, Marilyn Monroe, Senator Joe McCarthy, and Joe DiMaggio in a New York hotel room in the 1950s. 10:00 am: Woodworking with Wurzel10:00 am: Woodworking with Wurzel – t is the beginning of George Wurtzel’s dream to bring in masters of their field, to come teach classes in the Tactile Art Center. Please apply to this workshop using the following link below: https://form.jotform.com/72545928294165 If you have any questions or need support with filling out the application, please contact Taccarra Burrell at tburrell@lighthouse-sf.org or 415-694-7318 Enchanted Hills 3410 Mt Veeder Rd, Napa, CA 94558 (707) 251-1548 11:00 am: Way Bay, feat. What if he secretly switched identities with one of his many impersonators to escape the trials and tribulations of superstardom? What if he didn’t really die on a toilet, but lived a long (and reasonably) happy life in a trailer park, eking out a meager living portraying himself? Where would he be now? Apparently he’d be lying flat on his back worrying about his penis, and waiting for the inevitable at the Shady Rest Convalescent Home in Mud Creek, Texas. Thankfully, he has a friend and confidante, the wheelchair-bound John F. Kennedy. Complicating matters, the home has a serious problem with giant scarab beetles, and an Egyptian mummy that prowls the halls late at night performing indiginties on the hapless residents. Will our two geriatric heroes be able to end this ancient reign of terror?" |

"The versatile David Tennant transitions from Dr. Who and “Broadchurch’s” Alec Hardy, DI, to give a dazzling performance as Dr. RD Laing, the radical and controversial psychiatrist who became a 1960s counterculture hero for advocating for the mentally ill. One of Scotland’s greatest minds, Laing adopted humane holistic treatment for mental illness using as tools group therapy and communal healing. Drugs were prohibited except for the experimental use of LSD. Based on a book of the same title of conversations with Laing, the film is largely set at a refuge Laing set up at Kingsley Hall in east London. Gabriel Byrne and Michael Gambon are illuminating as patients who adore their harddrinking, emotional shrink. Elisabeth Moss brings out Laing’s soft side as his partner. An aspiring actress, she hopes to pick up some advice in the process. This May-December buddy movie is a glorious showcase for the great Brian Cox, who – in one of his best roles ever as the maddeningly self-absorbed but shrewdly observant thespian - deftly portrays a character considerably less vital than the actor himself. Twenty-four local Bay Area artists will produce two pieces each on these identically sized panels that will exactly ring the gallery, with 48 works total.

Ray pegs the impulse toward vengeance, like that of forgiveness, as a personal moment, even when it belongs to the crowd. Robert Ryan’s Jim Wilson is a particular kind of big-city neurotic, tortured by his cheerless existence. On the streets, he is judge and jury: we are all guilty of being human. Wilson is banished temporarily to Twin Peaks country, where a mentally disturbed killer is being protected by his sister (Ida Lupino), and the townsfolk, led by a murdered girl’s father (Ward Bond), are out for blood. Lupino plays a blind woman; we hear her before we see her, and the deep resonance of her voice alters the tone of the film. She becomes seer to Ryan’s cop who can’t close his eyes. Set to a Bernard Herrmann score, the glistening urban noir gives way to a moody snowscape where understanding and redemption come, as always in these fatalistic films, a few heartbeats too late." Way Bay is a sweeping exploration of the creative energies that have emerged from the San Francisco Bay Area over the past two centuries.
BAMPFA 2155 Center Street Berkeley, CA (510) 642-0808 12:00 pm: 48 Pillars, feat. Vincent Jackson12:00 pm: 48 Pillars, feat. Vincent Jackson – "Arc Gallery presents the second installation of 48 Pillars featuring new artwork by Vincent Jackson. 48 Pillars was inspired by a chance encounter at Flax Art and Design with a close-out sale of deep vertical panels, 48 x 12 x 1 5/8 inches. Twenty-four local Bay Area artists will produce two pieces each on these identically sized panels that will exactly ring the gallery, with 48 works total.
This is the second exhibition at Arc Gallery that is essentially a “structural constraint” show. Artists are unconstrained in subject matter except to the extent that works need to be a series; but they are constrained in format."
