Woodworking with Wurzel

February 4, 2018

t is the beginning of George Wurtzel’s dream to bring in masters of their field, to come teach classes in the Tactile Art Center. Once again we are raising the bar for what blind people can expect, what they can accomplish, and that they can rise to the top of their field; given the right training. This session we will have Jerry Kermode come in and instruct woodturning along with George Wurtzel.

In spite of the Napa fires, we will still have this amazing, informative, and imaginative session at Enchanted Hills Camp. Please join expert George Wurtzel for another wonderful workshop for beginners, intermediate, and experienced woodworkers. The workshop will be for four days in the beauty of Napa. This class will mainly focus on woodturning. Woodturning is a form of woodworking that is used to create wooden objects on a lathe. This method differs from most other forms of woodworking in that the wood is moving while a stationary tool is used to cut and shape it. Many intricate shapes and designs can be made by turning wood. We will continue to explore hand tool work, power tools, accurate measuring without sight; using click rules, gauge blocks, Vernier calipers, and talking tape measures. We will also continue to discuss different wood types, construction and finishing techniques.
