The Petaluma Arts Center (PAC) is proud to announce its upcoming exhibition:  “The Inside Face of Outsider Art: New Perspectives from the North Bay” in our main gallery April 13 – May 27, 2019.

Every artist has a voice! This exhibit features artwork and performances from many of the 100+ clients of Alchemia in Petaluma, Cedars of Marin and Marin Ventures. These three North Bay studios, exclusively represent artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These bold artistic voices express a vision of the world in a variety of artistic mediums including — but not limited to — ceramic, canvas, paper, and fiber arts. These works provide an arresting examination of both pop & traditional cultural norms of the seen and unseen world we inhabit.

Alchemia, a regional non-profit founded in Petaluma by artists Lorin Kaufman and Julia MacDougal 20 years ago, is an organization dedicated to giving voice to disabled people, as are our other partners.

Bringing these three organizations together in one exhibition offers a wonderful opportunity for the community to know and appreciate the amazing capabilities of a population sometimes only recognized for their limitations.

Art work will be for sale. Collectors can expand their collections and others may choose to start a collection of their own. Everyone will enjoy and feel enriched by the creativity and insights of the work.

“The Inside Face of Outsider Art”: New Perspectives from the North Bay”, opens with a reception on Saturday April 13 at 5:30 PM.  All are welcome! The gallery is open to visitors starting April 16 and will run Tuesday – Saturday from 11-5 through May 27th.
