Call for Art by Santa Monica Disabilities Commission

The Santa Monica Disabilities Commission is currently seeking 2-dimensional art work (drawing, painting and printed work) created by people who have mental illness for a group exhibit during Mental Health Awareness Month (May). The art will be on display at the Main Santa Monica Public Library for 2 weeks during the month of May, and will accompany books and information that would help bring awareness and educate the public about mental health.

Mental illness includes (but is not limited to) schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, clinical depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

To be considered for the show, please submit photographs of the art work along with a short statement (biographical information, artistic vision, and information that would help us understand your approach), and a description of the work. The overall show is intended to include approximately 10 to 20 pieces of art.

The final day to submit art work for consideration is March 16, 2018. Submissions will be accepted only via email at dc@smgov.net. Artists will be notified by April 3, 2018.
