2:00 pm: The Waiting Period2:00 pm: The Waiting Period "This show is an unrelenting look at a ten-day period in Copeland’s life—the mandatory ten-day waiting period before he could lay his hands on the newly purchased gun with which he planned to take his own life. Even in the midst of this tragedy, however, his wonderful sense of the comedy of life does not desert him (how much should he spend on the gun?), indeed serves him insidiously well as a buffer against the grim reality of his intention. Copeland hopes this very personal, and ultimately redemptive, story will reach people who struggle with depression—often called the last stigmatized disease—as well as their families and loved ones. Interspersed with interviews with other sufferers, the play, like so many Marsh stories, also offers outsiders an insider’s view, thereby expanding our understanding and, hopefully, our humanity." 1062 Valencia St. San Francisco, CA 94110 USA (415) 282-3055 7:00 pm: Angels in America: Millennium Approaches7:00 pm: Angels in America: Millennium Approaches Performance of Millennium Approaches, part one of Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes. 2025 Addison Street Berkeley, CA 94704 USA |

The respected art collector and gallery owner Jack Fischer says the artwork included “would already be a part of his own collection if he only had the space!” The nine exhibiting artists range in age from 23 to 65, representing multiple cultural points of view. The mixed media work included in the exhibition highlights simple and complex line drawings, multiple examples of text-based art, as well as lush, colorful pieces on paper, wood, and ceramic. Selected artists include some of Fischer’s “old favorites” including Andrew Li (b. 1962) who had a solo exhibition of gestural drawings at the Jack Fischer Gallery before it relocated and expanded to two locations in the Potrero Hill and the Dogpatch neighborhoods. Another artist who focuses on the use of line, albeit in a completely opposite way than Li, is James Miles (b. 1957). His miniature ink drawings of quiet scenes tell stories and draw the viewer in closer for closer examination of his deceptively simple compositions. A long-time fan of Evelyn Reyes’ (b. 1957) graphic oil pastel drawings and Camille Holvoet’s (b. 1952) depictions of colorful confections, Fischer selected several of their works adding vibrant pops of pigment among the monochromatic line drawings. Further along the color spectrum is new work by Samedi Djeimguero (b. 1995), the youngest artist included in the exhibition whose large-scale oil pastel drawings, reminiscent of Rothko, supply visual pools for the eyes to do a deep dive. John Patrick McKenzie (b. 1962) and Daniel Green (b. 1985), long heralded by Fischer, create popular text-based works that reference popular culture and politics, with wry wit. The work included in Nine Hearts Exploring is mostly drawn on unusual surfaces such as a Victorian window, cigarette box, and fiberboard samples. Alongside artists that Fischer is well acquainted with are some new discoveries including Roland Record (b. 1975) and Nubia Ortega (b. 1976). Record creates complex compositions made up of fragmented grids and intersecting patterns with occasional figures, hearts, houses, and flowers, while Ortega molds textured fish and playful toy cars in glazed ceramic." 311 Potrero Avenue San Francisco, CA 94103 USA 415 522 1178 |

"Just in time for Kevin Macdonald’s heartwarming, estate-sanctioned & sanitized WHITNEY doc, we bring back Nick Broomfield’s no-holds-barred exploration of one of the 20th century great vocalists. As a 16-year-old in East Orange, New Jersey, Whitney Elizabeth Houston was already on the cusp of international stardom. She told her best friend Robyn Crawford, “stick with me, and I’ll take you around the world.” And that’s just what she did. Opening her heart (and wallet) to family and friends, she became one of the most successful female recording artists in the world. But with fame came devastating setbacks, not just in the form of her well-documented struggle with drugs but also due to a deeply racist and homophobic industry that forced the singer to discard her true self and adopt an impossibly pristine public persona. With never-before-seen footage that takes us inside the most tense and intimate moments of her 1999 “My Love Is Your Love” World Tour along with interviews with some of those closest to the star, prolific documentarian Nick Broomfield (Kurt & Courtney, Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer) and renowned music video director Rudi Dolezal uncover a sprawling and revealing portrait of the superstar — from a youth inspired by gospel music to a singer plagued by addiction and fed-up with playing a role both on- and off-stage. Whitney. “Can I Be Me” reveals, with heartbreaking detail, how the music industry obscured a gifted woman’s race and sexuality in order to maximize profit. But it also finds refuge in the sheer power of her jaw-dropping vocals as well as her captivating stage presence, illustrating with riveting archival sequences why she is still regarded today as one of the most gifted singers in history." 3117 16th St. San Francisco, CA 94103 USA (415) 863-1087 8:00 pm: The Hunchback of Notre Dame8:00 pm: The Hunchback of Notre Dame "Bay Area Musicals will close its’ season with the luscious musical---brought you by the winning team behind Aladdin, Little Mermaid, and Beauty & the Beast---The Hunchback of Notre Dame. 1976). Record creates complex compositions made up of fragmented grids and intersecting patterns with occasional figures, hearts, houses, and flowers, while Ortega molds textured fish and playful toy cars in glazed ceramic." 311 Potrero Avenue San Francisco, CA 94103 USA 415 522 1178 7:00 pm: Angels in America: Perestroika7:00 pm: Angels in America: Perestroika Performance of Perestroika, part two of Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes. 2025 Addison Street Berkeley, CA 94704 USA |

San Francisco, CA 94110 USA (415) 282-3055 3:00 pm: Richard III3:00 pm: Richard III African-American Shakespeare Company presents Richard III, the political thriller about a "deformed, unfinish'd" royal who conspires his way to the thrown. 1976). "In his heartfelt documentary, co-director and subject Elad Cohen explores the meaning and experience of family. Growing up deaf and gay in a family of hearing people, Cohen never felt at home and always felt alone. That feeling of estrangement was exacerbated during his adolescence by the sudden death of his mother and the subsequent rift with his father as the family scattered in different directions. Cohen creates a sense of family with a small group of friends, including his best friend, Yaeli, a deaf woman. While he wants a child and a life partner, he fears that he won’t find the right man in the small deaf community in his “sweet little country.” Sharing a desire with Yaeli to be parents, the new “couple” decide to have a child in a shared parenting arrangement. Clips from Cohen’s childhood are interspersed with footage of family members and friends and his day-to-day life. As new parents, they soon realize the naïveté in their expectations about bringing up a baby together. Their journey reveals the challenges of parenting, the bias against deaf individuals and the intricacies of human relationships. Ultimately their newborn helps Cohen become a more complete person and allows him to mend his relationship with his own father." 429 Castro St. San Francisco, CA 94114 USA (415) 621-6120 2:00 pm: Black Panther - Audio Described Film2:00 pm: Black Panther - Audio Described Film – The biggest movie of 2018--now with a white British guy talking over it? "At the age of three his immense talent was already on display as he sang and tap danced his way across the country performing with his father and godfather. In the 1950s, he notoriously dated Hollywood star Kim Novak prompting Columbia Pictures bigwig Harry Cohn to order him to stick to Black women. Following a serious car accident in which he lost an eye, Davis converted to Judaism. In the 1960s, the only African American member of the legendary Rat Pack, he supported John F. Kennedy's candidacy, marched in Selma with Martin Luther King and became a prominent activist in the civil rights movement. And then in 1972 he shocked the country by supporting Richard Nixon for reelection, giving him a famous hug on stage during the Republican convention. It's hard to imagine a more talented and groundbreaking performer who led a more complicated and contradictory life than Davis. He did not shy away from controversy and was not afraid to use his name and talent for a good cause. Featuring excerpts from his exhilarating performances and interviews with the likes of Billy Crystal, Norman Lear, Jerry Lewis and Whoopi Goldberg, director Sam Pollard's riveting documentary unpacks the apparent contradictions and presents a very full and very human portrait of this complex, courageous and conflicted man." 3000 El Camino Real Palo Alto, CA 94306 USA 650-493-0128 3:00 pm: Richard III3:00 pm: Richard III African-American Shakespeare Company presents Richard III, the political thriller about a "deformed, unfinish'd" royal who conspires his way to the thrown. "NYC 1986. Adam, a lanky young blond-haired guy walks down 125th Street exploring Harlem and sees a grizzled street musician, a one-man band who sings and plays the guitar and percussion with his feet at the same time. He calls himself Mr. Satan and he plays a mean blues. Unexpectedly, the white Jewish kid pulls out a harmonica and asks Satan to jam, and a musical partnership in perfect sync is born. The street musician is Sterling Magee, who is rumored to have played with James Brown, Ray Charles, King Curtis, Etta James and other blues luminaries. Adam believes, despite his Ivy League education, that it was his mission in life to do this. The odd couple are soon killing it at music festivals and other gigs. They cut a record. One of Satan’s tunes ends up on a U2 album. Then, suddenly, Satan drops out of sight. Two years later, the filmmakers find him in St. Petersburg, Florida. The old man had a stroke and can’t play the guitar anymore. But the connection is still strong, and Satan and Adam attempt to reconstitute the act. This documentary, a big attention-getter at the Tribeca Film Festival, captures a fascinating journey of friendship, heartbreak and the transformative power of the blues." 3000 El Camino Real Palo Alto, CA 94306 USA 650-493-0128 7:00 pm: 4.48 Psychosis7:00 pm: 4.48 Psychosis "Anton’s Well Theater Company is proud to present a rare local production of 4.48 Psychosis, Sarah Kane’s searing examination of depression.

Simon can’t stop hitting himself and neither his most recent stay at a mental institution nor the imminent arrival of his son seem to have helped him turn a corner. Rivkah is concerned about having him as a part of their newborn’s life. Théodore is 13 and studying for his bar mitzvah. But his mother doesn’t know where he goes after school and his absentee father doesn’t respond to him or his invitation to his bar mitzvah, not to mention his habit of losing his temper and hitting people and his hesitancy to communicate. When Théodore runs away from his own bar mitzvah ceremony, Simon follows, taking the opportunity as a chance to connect with the boy and thus prove to Rivkah that he can take care of their son when he arrives. As the unlikely duo travels through Paris getting angry, getting scared and getting close, they lean on each other and attempt to help one another fill in their own blanks before it is too late." 3000 El Camino Real Palo Alto, CA 94306 USA 650-493-0128 |

Ultimately their newborn helps Cohen become a more complete person and allows him to mend his relationship with his own father." 1115 Solano Avenue Albany, CA 94706 USA (510) 525-4531 8:00 pm: 4.48 Psychosis8:00 pm: 4.48 Psychosis "Anton’s Well Theater Company is proud to present a rare local production of 4.48 Psychosis, Sarah Kane’s searing examination of depression. This documentary, a big attention-getter at the Tribeca Film Festival, captures a fascinating journey of friendship, heartbreak and the transformative power of the blues." 429 Castro St. San Francisco, CA 94114 USA (415) 621-6120 8:00 pm: 4.48 Psychosis8:00 pm: 4.48 Psychosis "Anton’s Well Theater Company is proud to present a rare local production of 4.48 Psychosis, Sarah Kane’s searing examination of depression. "Simon is a loving husband to Rivkah, a rabbi who is eight-and-a-half months pregnant. They are in love and Simon is kind, thoughtful and caring. The only problem? As the unlikely duo travels through Paris getting angry, getting scared and getting close, they lean on each other and attempt to help one another fill in their own blanks before it is too late." 429 Castro St. San Francisco, CA 94114 USA (415) 621-6120 2:00 pm: The Waiting Period2:00 pm: The Waiting Period "This show is an unrelenting look at a ten-day period in Copeland’s life—the mandatory ten-day waiting period before he could lay his hands on the newly purchased gun with which he planned to take his own life. San Francisco, CA 94110 USA (415) 282-3055 3:00 pm: Richard III3:00 pm: Richard III African-American Shakespeare Company presents Richard III, the political thriller about a "deformed, unfinish'd" royal who conspires his way to the thrown. This documentary, a big attention-getter at the Tribeca Film Festival, captures a fascinating journey of friendship, heartbreak and the transformative power of the blues." 1115 Solano Avenue Albany, CA 94706 USA (510) 525-4531 7:00 pm: 4.48 Psychosis7:00 pm: 4.48 Psychosis "Anton’s Well Theater Company is proud to present a rare local production of 4.48 Psychosis, Sarah Kane’s searing examination of depression. Featuring excerpts from his exhilarating performances and interviews with the likes of Billy Crystal, Norman Lear, Jerry Lewis and Whoopi Goldberg, director Sam Pollard's riveting documentary unpacks the apparent contradictions and presents a very full and very human portrait of this complex, courageous and conflicted man." 429 Castro St. San Francisco, CA 94114 USA (415) 621-6120 |

Record creates complex compositions made up of fragmented grids and intersecting patterns with occasional figures, hearts, houses, and flowers, while Ortega molds textured fish and playful toy cars in glazed ceramic." 311 Potrero Avenue San Francisco, CA 94103 USA 415 522 1178 12:00 pm: NIAD August Exhibits12:00 pm: NIAD August Exhibits – NIAD Art Center will feature three exhibitions in August: The Genre Leaps, a group exhibition organized by Margaret Tedesco; the solo exhibition, Shade: Andrew Luck; and a solo exhibition from Carlota Rodriguez. 551 23rd Street Richmond, CA 94804 510-62-0290 2:00 pm: The Hunchback of Notre Dame2:00 pm: The Hunchback of Notre Dame "Bay Area Musicals will close its’ season with the luscious musical---brought you by the winning team behind Aladdin, Little Mermaid, and Beauty & the Beast---The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Featuring excerpts from his exhilarating performances and interviews with the likes of Billy Crystal, Norman Lear, Jerry Lewis and Whoopi Goldberg, director Sam Pollard's riveting documentary unpacks the apparent contradictions and presents a very full and very human portrait of this complex, courageous and conflicted man." 4186 Piedmont Avenue Oakland, CA 94611 USA (510) 985-1252 8:00 pm: 4.48 Psychosis8:00 pm: 4.48 Psychosis "Anton’s Well Theater Company is proud to present a rare local production of 4.48 Psychosis, Sarah Kane’s searing examination of depression. Diedrick Razo, Choreographer Bridgette Loriaux, Music Composer Greg Zema, and Lighting Designer Nathan Bogner. The New York Times finds that 4.48 Psychosis is “breathtakingly beautiful” and that Sarah Kane’s language “creates the most persuasive and authentic portrait of what it means to be terminally depressed…ever encountered in a theater.” 4.48 Psychosis opens on Friday, July 20.
